There are two types of Celebrity fund raising events: Celebrity and Pro-Am’s events.

The Celebrity & Charity Events are scramble, shamble or best ball events often hosted by PGA/LPGA Tour members, celebrities or organizations “fund raising” for a specific cause.  Celebrities host or play in charity events giving amateur players an “up front and personal” experience with them.

In Celebrity events amateur teams  play with a “celebrity”, usually a famous athlete, local, regional or national politician, actor or actress. Find your “cause” and have fun playing in a pro-am, celebrity or charity event.

Michael Jordan Celebrity Invitational (MJCI) is hosted by basketball legend and Hall of Fame member Michael Jordan and brings together sports and entertainment notables for a four day charity golf even.  Over a period of eight years, the MJCI has raised nearly $5 million for charity, and annually brings out some of the biggest names in sports, entertainment and even politics, with President Bill Clinton participating in 2007 and 2009.  Known in past years not only for competitive golf on a challenging oceanside course, but also for the glittering nightlife provided at the fabulous Atlantis resort.   There are also exciting social events that surround the televised golf tournament.

FRANK SINATRA STARKEY HEARING FOUNDATION CELEBRITY INVITATIONAL

The Frank Sinatra Starkey Hearing Foundation Celebrity Invitational is dedicated to the memory and music of Frank Sinatra and benefits the Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center at Eisenhower Medical Center. The Frank Sinatra Starkey Hearing Foundation Celebrity Invitational enjoys a rich history as one of the marquee golf and fundraising events in the Palm Springs, California desert. Each year, celebrities, amateur contestants, loyal sponsors and enthusiastic spectators from all over the country look forward to returning to this unique “celebrity friendly” event.  Cameras are welcome!!

The mission of the Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center is to provide counseling for victims of physical, sexual and emotional abuse and to focus on prevention, community education and breaking the generational cycle of abuse. The Celebrity Classic continues in its 12th year of success.   The tournament will feature celebrities from the NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB as well as Olympians and stars from television, music, and motion pictures. 2010 MARIO LEMIEUX CELEBRITY INVITATIONAL

The Mario Lemieux Celebrity Invitational presented by Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield returned to Nemacolin Woodlands Resort for another star-studded event. Some new faces joined the celebrity field and Lord Stanley made an appearance, making this a truly memorable year for Mario and the Mario Lemieux Foundation!

The Mario Lemieux Foundation was created in 1993 by hockey legend Mario Lemieux. In that year, Mario was enjoying the greatest season of his brilliant career and on pace to establish a new NHL scoring record. Then he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease.  After a successful battle with Hodgkin’s, Mario is now twelve years cancer free and his experience led him to focus on ways to assist those not so fortunate. He devotes much of his time to the Foundation raising funds to help reach the ultimate goal: a cure for cancer.

The main objective of the Mario Lemieux Foundation is to fund promising medical research projects being conducted by talented scientists. Among the donations made by the Foundation was a five million dollar gift to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center to establish the Mario Lemieux Centers for Patient Care and Research in 2001 and a two million dollar gift to the Children’s Home of Pittsburgh in 2005.
