It is important for any golfer who is playing any level of tournament golf to be aware of the correct way to play, golf etiquette and the rules of golf. Every golfer who plays competitive golf (at any level) has come across a rule or rules that have helped him/her become a better player — or perhaps you have had a learning experience that made you a better player. Please share these thoughts with us so that we can pass your experiences on to future players.
1) Pace of Play & Timing
* Know the importance of Pace of Play & timing
* Mark your golf ball with felt marker so you can identify that it is yours
* Walk briskly to the next shot
* SLOW play cost penalties; take only 45 seconds per shot
* Limit practice swings to 2 maximum before each shot
* Be prepared to hit your shot by knowing the yardage and wind in advance before it is your turn
* No one likes a slow player, it will cost you penalties. Remember 45 seconds per shot.
2) Etiquette
* Know and understand the basics of golf etiquette
* Don’t stand or walk in the putting line of others when on the green
* Be respectful of fellow players; keep chit chat to at a minimum during competition
* If there is a question (other than a ruling) address it at the scoring tent, NOT during play
* First player to finish putting tends the flagstick, remember “First In Get’s The Pin”!
* Don’t walk off after you are done, wait until all the competitors have finished putting
3) Rules
* Learn the rules and seek the advice of a Rules Official rather than someone else
* Important rule #1 for competitive play Rule 27-2 (playing a provisional ball)
* Important rule #2 for competitive play Rule 3-3 (playing a second ball)
* Understand how to take ball drops properly
* If in doubt about a rule, ask an official for rules advice
* The best golfers always ask for a rules official when they have a question or need advice
4) Scoring
* Check your score before signing your scorecard
* Sign your scorecard after you have confirmed it is correct
* Confirm your competitor’s score after each hole; record it accurately
* Carry a current USGA Rules Book and know how to use it
* Carry a copy of any local rules in your bag

Ever since the TRC site has gone public I’ve been really impressed by the knowledge of our members and friends of the TRC. I like to think that we’re all learning from each other. So in the spirit of continuing our education we had a contest for the best golf tip. Those Golf Tips are below.
